Ecoacoustics: a biodiversity yardstick
Nature and farmland are full of sounds. By capturing and analysing these sounds with machine learning, it might be possible to derive conclusions about the species and biodiversity present.
This project wants to assess if a biodiversity-positive farm field has particular sounds and whether biodiversity indicators can be derived from ecoacoustic monitoring. It's a rather unique collaboration between bird ecologists and agrofood robotics specialists.
The project will experiment with soundscapes in Brazil (with Universidade Federal de Viçosa) and the Netherlands.
