TOXLINE no longer updated

The US National Library of Medicine (NLM) has announced that the TOXLINE database is no longer being updated as of 9 June 2025. Toxicology literature is now primarily accessible via PubMed and other sources. In this article, you'll find alternative databases for literature, research data, and substance information in the fields of toxicology, drug development, chemistry, pesticides, and human health.

TOXLINE archived data

TOXLINE was the National Library of Medicine (NLM) bibliographic database for toxicology, a varied science encompassing many disciplines. The archival data are provided for archival and research purposes only and are available at Toxicology Information Online (TOXLINE) - Archived Data.

Alternative bibliographical databases

PubMed PubMed comprises more than 20 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, OLDMEDLINE (pre-1966,) life science journals, and online books. Access to PubMed is free. Updated TOXLINE content is available in PubMed or by searching PubMed using the search string: tox [sb]

MedLine; MedLine is an important and large bibliographic database on biomedicine, health and life sciences made by the US National Library of Medicine.You can access MedLine either trough OVID or the EBSCO platform)

Scopus; Scopus is a large, multidisciplinary bibliography of over 14000 journal titles from 4,000 publishers providing access to over 25 million abstracts going back to 1966 and 5 years of reference back years.

Agris; Free database from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on all aspects of agriculture. Literature amongst others on pesticides and veterinary toxicology.

CompTox Chemicals Dashboard; US Environmental Protection Agency

eChemPortal; eChemPortal provides free public access to information on chemical properties and direct links to collections of information prepared for government chemical programmes at national, regional, and international levels.

ECHA CHEM; European Chemical Agency's new public chemicals database with information from all REACH registrations received by the Agency.

PesticideInfo; Pesticide Action & Agroecology Network (PAN) public database of chemicals and products related to pesticide use and application. 

PubChem; PubChem is an open archive of chemical substances and their biological experimental results.
